The word Vishnu actually refers to a category known as Vishnu-tattva, or the category of God. There are many definitions of the name Vishnu, but the basic is "He who has entered everywhere", in reference to God's omnipresence as the paramatma.
The Karanodakashayi Vishnu (Maha Vishnu) is the first Purusha avatar who Maha Vishnuis lying on the causal ocean (karana-udaka). From him the innumerable universes manifest as he exhales. And into Him the universes are destroyed as He inhales. He expands into each universal shell as the Garbhodakashayi Vishnu. This Vishnu is lying on the universal waters that originate from His persperation, and which fill the universe half way. In his navel is a lake, and from that lake grows a lotus stem. Lord Brahma is born within that lotus. Inside the stem of the lotus are the fourteen planetary systems. This Vishnu expands as Kshirodakashayi Vishnu who resides in Shveta Dvipa on the milk ocean. This planet is actually a Vaikuntha planet that the Lord manifests within the material universe. In reality it is more like a window through the material covering, which allows one to see a portion of the spiritual realm. It is an eternal abode, and it continues to exist even after the destruction of the universe.

Why Draupadi married all the Pandavas?
King Drupada set up the swayamwara in order to marry off Draupadi to a strong prince. There were several ceremonies held before the men would compete to win Draupadi's love. In order for them to receive a garland of marriage, they had the tricky task of stringing a bow and shooting five arrows into a target swinging above their head while looking into a plate filled with oil that showed the reflection of the target. The trick was the bow was enormous and so heavy that hardly any of the princes attempting to lift it could not do it. Most of them gave up after trying to lift it once. Then, it was Karna's turn. He was an ally of the Kauravas, who were cousins and rivals to the Pandavas. Karna was able to lift the bow and pull the string back. Just as he was letting go of the string, Draupadi yelled at the top of her lungs. "NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! I won't go with him. He is not good enough." All her yelling caused Karna to miss the target, which meant he did not win a garland. Draupadi knew that if she hadn't done anything, he would have hit the target perfectly and she would be forced to go live with the evil Kauravas.
